What’s up Whatsapp

Cultural change is a continuum. What Whatsapp did to all of us – just take a view through my eyes.

Social communication cant get any better than this. Whatsapp has been the medium to make up for differences amongst friends, families, near and dear ones – bridging the differences like what telephones did to us half a century ago. Feelings got expressed better. I do not say that bad communication weren’t there, but Good ones top them all.

We can feel the emotions, thanks to emoticons. Makes me think we are better with sign language than words – where we tend to confuse more often.

Long lost friends get closer in groups – homogenous, heterogenous, whatever. Parents and children alike, find each others’ tastes, well-being, share jokes, quotes, pics, comments – narrowing the generation gap. Elders have grown to be more tolerant and young ones better matured.  Knowing their follies, through a quantum of stories, theories, management lessons, memes, that pass through whatsapp in a whiz.

Albeit some false propaganda, general awareness levels has increased manifold than the time when television had broken the news barriers.

Grouping and ungrouping has become so damn easy. Broadcast messages seem so personalised like one-on-ones. Quick, easy, less expensive, whatsapp is the game changer. Don’t be surprised to see how old ones in the family have found a very engaging medium to execute their wishes of  bringing their families together. Mothers and uncles anchoring the groups as moderators, fathers shedding their tough facade, have become the early birds and the last-to-bed. First blessings on Birthdays, Anniversaries or greetings on big days, festivals or a simple wish in the mornings and the evenings come from these yearning souls. How energizing they are and the vibes they create for all of us. Wow, inexplicable.

Now, even work gets done much faster. Emails have become just formal. Whatsapp, actual work, responsiveness is many times better here than on emails. Also, it is not as intimidating as emails. Beyond the band, the bandwidth of communication through whatsapp is the widest.

Culturally too, this medium has brought all of us so close – leaving all the class and economic differences behind.

Whatsapp – what an app.
