How Do You Read Me
Loud and clear, would be the answer. On voice communication channels, we use this language while checking on voice / signal quality and strength. I want to tell the world that WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media have refined our language skills. We touch upon Wikipedia, Dictionary and learn new words in our search for the right expression. Start Googling for more information to add value/ contribute to the discussion from our end. We see to it that our language does not become a laughing matter.
While we can debate endlessly over the pros and cons of social media, to me, the pros most definitely outnumber cons. This discussion is confined to the scope of Language in this arena.
Language skills do help us market globally. Speak our mind. Perceive and grasp larger truths and concepts. Express clearly even the minutest detail with ease. Collaborate and co create without hurdles. Identify and associate with the right groups without much hassles. We have already cut across the borders between countries and share our likes, dislikes and views at lightning speeds.
If you have noticed, you would find, there are not many language teachers on our social groups, to sarcastically point to the world that our grammar is wrong, spellings are wrong, or anything on those lines. Nowadays, everyone seem to have bettered their language skills. It could be due to the increasing literacy rate and importantly, growing awareness on what language does for you. Besides, technology has helped us to a very large extent. Auto fill, auto correct, thesaurus, spell-check features which were once available only as paid software, are now free built-in features of even the cheapest mobile OSes.
As a result, content on the Internet and social media have increased manifold. Thus, the information age is nearing it’s pinnacle. Abundant information is already available on the net. Mobile internet has come like breeze. Language is always near perfect. Technologies are being now deployed to speedily sift through such TeraTons of information. SEOs and Datascientists have already taken over. I have started wondering, after reaching out to the last inhabitant of this planet, what do we do next with Language.
Start calling out to the outer world, How Do You Read Me..
Now a days I am slowly becoming an admirer of your English language skills and terminology. Though I agree with you that English knowledge/vocabulary is so essential for the present trend of communication and marketing development, I feel we need not worry about that as it is not our mother tongue to have perfection. And one more thing Prabha….I question myself whether I am a right/eligible person to give opinion on your writings as you have growing higher and higher in English literature. Good. Keep it up. God bless you.
Thank you Maama. In this article, I didn’t subscribe to any language in particular.
True prabhakar. I for one feel that the benefits of social media far outweigh its demerits..and best part is that comprehension has become king, grammar has receded into the background.
Agree Madam
Nice
Thank you Anurag

day-out over the usage of social media…
The best part is the spelling awareness… The word which were spelt for over four decades are amazingly WRONG… Thanks Auto fill…
