Khalsi Cottage

Khalsi cottage

A place where my wife and I had romanced with nature during our newly-wed months, which extended on and on. A small housing complex of just four houses in the outskirts of Adampur – a town near Jalandhar in Punjab. Four young couples as tenants. Khalsi was the name of the owner of the property.

Me and wife, both hailed from City and to us those plush green fields of Adampur, so vast in expanse, was a dream home. Far away from the concrete jungle that we came from, Khalsi Cottage was nothing less than heaven, or even more since it is the longest honeymoon that anyone can imagine. Weekdays, at work was as always, engaging and entertaining, both. On weekends we went for long walks along the canal on the village side. Those fields laden with tall sugarcane, sunflower plants and so much of clean and abundant water flowing along was a sight to watch.  Even wheat and corn grew so tall here.  That is the place where I experienced the warmth of fresh milk. So full of froth, rich and white, so pure. Not just milk, people are so warm, gleaming with un-adultered smiles.  Be it under the stars on those summer nights, or when covered under huge blankets during those chilling winter nights, we do not recall any pain of adverse weather conditions, but only remember the nostalgia of this important period in our lives.   Friends who really cared – and in youthful company, we set aside the differences so naturally. Weekend evenings were filled with food, music and lots of fun.

Khalsi Cottage gave us a protective embrace like a caring hug from elders and warmth of Living and Loving people as one close knit family; as pure beings. Helped my wife in shedding away the fears of being in a far off land. Made us seek and give nothing but happiness in whatever we did.  We can learn to Love people for what they are, from here. Blessed, we were and are, to experience and remember for our life, The Khalsi Cottage – a Home – away from home.
