Working in the ICU

Working in Intensive Care Unit of any hospital will be the most stressful job if any in the world.  When every life is so important and critical, accompanied by emotionally very attached attendants, who are also very desperate for the well being of their cared ones. A slightest flicker of doubt on treatment or incompatibility between the ICU staff and attendants can cause an outburst of emotions that can severely affect the staff of the ICU and at times the patient. Significantly though the patient is not very responsive here which adds to the agony.

From the time a patient enters the ICU, till such time he/she is made safe and transferred to the ward, the doctors and nurses in the ICU have to be highly vigilant, highly sensitive and highly professional in caring for the patient while being empathetic to the  people accompanying. Attendants need to act responsibly and support the ICU staff in their endeavor to resuscitate the patient.

Comparing this scene to that of sales and collections. As the desperation grows, i.e. salesmen outnumber customers, then the collection procedures are no less than in ICU. Doubts about efforts on collection or incompatibility between members of sales and collection can play havoc. Here again, the collection staff need to be composed, highly sensitive and highly professional in caring for the customer while being empathetic to the salesmen. Salesmen need to act responsibly and support the collection staff in their endeavor to acquire revenue from the customer.

Understanding and appreciating one another’s role and perspective will be the only way to success. Be it in the ICU or in Sales versus Collections.
