#HeToo? #OhMan

#MeToo is warming up. I see that #MeToo is thoroughly misunderstood by a vast majority of the women folk, especially the elderly.

A WhatsApp forward reportedly by writer Geetanjali Arora on #MeToo gave me some comfort that all views are not the same. She gives a strong message against the movement. I do not fully agree with her, since I believe not all women are as Strong as #GeetanjaliArora or her likes. For the threat of being misquoted, I give you the entire forward for your consumption.

“You do me favours, I do you favours , 30 years later lets call ‘me too’. A strong woman does not wait 30, 20, 10 years to speak up, she slaps him on the first ‘bad-touch’ and knocks him down. Don’t hide your weakness, the favours in returns that you enjoyed and the work you got by ‘I was too scared’ cry now.. You were scared to say NO then because it was hard to stand up for what was right ahd you were scared to loose your status and position in the work place, so YOU CHOSE to accept the molestation and went back for more.. Its very easy to play the abla-nari card later and gain sympathy.. The Shakthi does not wait for a later date to speak up, she silences the evil on the spot.. My thought on this nonsense of ‘me too’.. I dont have ‘me too’ stories, anyone who tried got a tight slap then and there and I was never afraid to walk out with my head held high – be it in a Job or relationship!!! Strong Women don’t have ‘me too’ sob stories, they only have – I slapped him back – short essays.”

My few cents here..

Hit the iron when it is Hot.

Many are questioning why most of the Men are silent. Of course, the reasons are obvious. Sexual advances made towards people of the other sex, in the prime of virility, apply to both sexes equally. In that, Men are primarily more culpable to such advances for reasons more attributable to physiological and psychological than social. In my opinion, Men are “weaker” than Women. Many such erstwhile “transactions” could have been consensual exchanges with or without something in return. Becoming “Holier than thou”, now, cannot set records straight.

#MeToo seems to bring out more skeletons out of the closet, yes. All Guilty must be punished, yes. #MeToo is good, required to re-inforce safety of women in a civilised society. But the current developments do cause doubts and to be marring the intended purpose and sanctity.

Women empowerment is a #Must-Have. But raising accusations on acts older by decades leave little room for fair chances to the accused, proper conduct of investigations or the wherewithal to dispense Justice within a reasonable timeframe. Not just this Country, it isn’t available anywhere in the world. Besides, the media goes hyper and does more damage than good on all such issues. We all would jump into Judgements before the accused is actually convicted. Defamation suits in true sense can never make good of the damages caused.

My concerns are not that someone will run #MeToo pointing fingers on me. But as in any well-intended Movement, the execution becomes the responsibility of Society as a whole. There has to be notable genuineness of purpose in every accusation. I fully subscribe to the philosophy #SheToo deserves Her #RightfulPlace. Otherwise, there is no point in calling ourselves “Civilized”. However, current direction of #MeToo doesn’t seem to be “appropriate”.

If #MeToo “advances” this way, then I am sure a vast majority of the “Weaker” sex will have to line up in the courts. Facebook, WhatsApp and News Channels shall flourish. We the people shall get busier in exchanging surprises over #HeToo? #OhMan!
